Let the science experiments begin!

A friend gave us a copy of a great book that the kids and I are really excited about using this year -- 175 Science Experiments to Amaze and Amuse Your Friends. It presents scientific facts in a way that is simple and yet not dumbed-down, and the experiments use mostly "pantry item" types of supplies. Since we will be flying on a plane in a few weeks, I decided to start with the "Air" section (one of my favorite things about homeschooling is orchestrating the collision of school-studies and real-life!). Today we learned about and then observed the effect of air on its surroundings. Here are some pictures of the kids in the midst of our experiments. As soon as school and lunch were over, David headed outside to start his painting project. Yesterday we finally bought some craft paint so that he can paint the wooden stuff he built a few weeks ago. He donned the paint smock that used to be his daddy's (thirty or so years ago!) and is totally engrossed in his project. Abigail is happily ensconced with a book to read, enjoying her solitude and munching away at her lunch, calling me occasionally to ask for more feta cheese chunks. Life is good. :)

Love to see the kids in action-it has to be the best part of homeschooling!

Those bright eyes and minds so ready to absorb all that Mom can come up with. They are so blessed. Can't wait to spend time with all of you. Love, Gram
