Violin recital ~ April 2012

Last night was the kids' spring violin recital and they did a great job!  It's amazing how much they've learned since their first class this past September.  They are very much enjoying both piano and violin, which is a wonderful thing.

Leap Day 2012

We thank God often for the determination that He put into this girl to overcome the physical obstacles she faces.  She has worked so hard at playing the piano and she is doing a great job...she has far exceeded our expectations.  Watch this beautiful left hand coordination and be amazed with us!

Nerf gun obsession!

Mindy LOVES David's Nerf guns.  As soon as she hears the 'click' of him loading it up, she crouches, trembles, and makes this funny noise, waiting for him to shoot a dart, which she chases happily...and then crouches and starts asking for another one!!!  I just had to share it...

Swimming again...finally!

As happened last year, Abigail was petrified of the pool again this year...but she has finally conquered it and is loving to swim again! Here is some video of her swimming on Saturday...

Today we spent a couple of hours at the pool -- it was a perfect pool afternoon, with a warm baking sun, a pleasant breeze, water temperature cool enough to refresh but warm enough to swim in for a long time without getting chilled, and to top it all off -- we had the pool to ourselves! I love August days...the excitement of school, the summery afternoons at the pool...and lots of time with my babies!

"Alice" the ballerina and the mighty explorer

Thanks to Grandma Minota for the ballerina skirt and ribbon -- they are very loved!

(David found the 'guts' from the birthday wrapping paper roll and it immediately inspired him to use it as binoculars and be an explorer/pirate/cowboy.)

Our little diva's debut

Grandpa & Grandma McKee took us there for a field trip this past weekend and the kids had a blast! It was neat to see our usually-shy Abigail perform so unabashedly -- this was her favorite part of our visit! More pictures to follow later...

Little Miss Spitfire goes swimming

Now remember, the first couple weeks of the pool, Abigail got hysterical at the mention of going in the pool at all and so I backed off and let her stay out...last week she shrieked and carried on while I took her in with me for a quick dip...over the weekend, she didn't scream, but she clung to my neck with a death-grip, in the pose that our family refers to as "spider monkey"...earlier this week, the same...and then today, she's sitting in the pool on the steps, happily singing "Row, Row, Row Your Boat" as if I'd made up the stories about our previous experiences just to be dramatic. Reading demo by Abigail

I've been meaning to post this for a while so that our long-distance family can see it...it's just taken me a while to get around to it! Abigail just picked up the phonics by listening to David's phonics classes...this is NOT a product of us pushing the subject on her. She LOVES to read and will read anything she can get her hands on. Note: Fyi, this is the first time we've read this story...also, sorry for the boring camera angle, but she refuses to read if David runs the camera, so I had to hold both Abigail and the camera!!!
